The proposed residential unit is for a quaint neighborhood in the coastal town of Seal Beach, Southern California. Strict planning constraints required working with the triangular site and the underlying footprint of a three-car garage that had to be maintained.
The 800-square-foot unit’s design embodies a strong contemporary vernacular, incorporating sustainable materials and a bold geometric design. Elevating the exterior will be blue-tinted tongue-in-groove composite siding on the residential floor. In contrast to the upper floor, the garage walls will be defined by smooth cement plaster, giving the structure an interesting composition. The unit’s entrance will be via a floating stairway that defines the upper-level entrance.
The unit’s floor plan includes a bedroom, a living room, and an open kitchen, mostly under a sloped roof with clerestory windows.
