A former restaurant space in Santa Monica has been transformed into an engaging installation for the new Khan Saab Desi Craft Kitchen. The colorful artwork takes inspiration from the street graphics and graffiti of the South Asian subcontinent, where abundant signage and bold imagery dominate urban streets.
A large-scale wallpaper depicting a hand-drawn sketch of an urban food street in Delhi’s old quarter creates a striking backdrop for the high-ceiling dining space, which overlooks the building’s tall storefront windows.
The colorful artwork, in a poster style, at the bar and in the hallway incorporates native typography, using overlapping Urdu and Hindi scripts commonly seen throughout the region.
